Grimoald 4 was a Lombard, son of Romoald 1 (dux of Beneventum) and Theuderada 1; brother of Gisulf 1 and Arichis 1: Paul. Diac. Hist., Lang. V 25. After the death of his father, Grimoald 4 succeeded as ruler of the Samnites (i.e. as dux of Beneventum) ("post quem eius filius Grimualdus tribus annis Samnitum populos rexit"); Grimoald 4 ruled for three years and was in turn succeeded on his death by his brother Gisulf 1; Grimoald 4 was married to Wigilinda 1, daughter of king Perctarit 1 and sister of king Cunincpert 1: Paul.
